Accessing the Women Enterprise Fund

This fund has two types of products known as Tuinuke Loan that is group based and Jiimarishe loan that is individual.

Tuinuke Loan

Disbursed at constituency level to registered groups at the Ministry of Gender, Children and social Development (MGC&SD) offices.

It has the following features:
• Group must be registered by MGC&SD and have been in operation for at least 3 months.
• Must have an account with a bank, SACCO, Post bank or any other approved deposit taking financial intermediary.
• Must be running a successful business or planning to start one.
• First loan of Kshs. 50,000 to be repaid in 12 months. If the group repays in 6 months, they qualify for a 2nd loan and 3rd loan of Kshs. 100,000 and Kshs. 200,000 respectively.
• Grace period of 3 months.
• Interest free loans with a one-off administrative fee of 5% on the loan amount.
• Each constituency is allocated Kshs. 2 million with the best performing receiving Kshs. 3 million.

Jiimarishe Loan

This type of loan is disbursed through financial intermediaries

• Individual women, registered groups or companies owned by women
• Interest of not more than 8% p.a on a reducing balance
• Maximum loan amount Kshs. 2 million repaid in 36 months.
• Amounts above Kshs. 500,000 require approval from WEF Bard
• No additional charges except insurance against death and disability.

Maximum loan amounts

From the financial intermediaries, up to Kshs.500, 000 for a maximum of 36 months. Amounts above half a million are recommended to the Fund’s Advisory Board for consideration.

Tuinuke Loan – A maximum of Kshs.50,000 for 12 months for the 1st loan, 2nd loan of Kshs.50,000.00 is automatically available if 1st loan is repaid within 6 months. 3rd and 4th loans of Kshs.75,000 and Kshs.100,000 respectively follow for the group. After the successful repayment of the 4th loan, a “letter of Good Credit Worthiness” is issued to a group.

Loan Repayment

Tuinuke loan repayments are made at any KCB branches countrywide, using pre-printed deposit slips given to all groups.
