Over 20, 000 children still out of school in Kuria

About 20,000 children still do not go to school in Kuria West district.

Area DC James Mugwe has now issued a one-week ultimatum to parents to immediately enrol their children in school or face arrest.

Mr Mugwe said most parents in Kuria still don’t know the importance of education even after the introduction of Free Primary Education seven years ago.

He asked the District Education Board to educate parents on the value of education through churches and public meetings organised in the region.

Speaking during the District Education Day at Kehancha Mixed Secondary School, the DC expressed fear that a big number of school going children were still at home.

“We all know that education is currently free in primary schools and there is no reason why this should be going on,” he said.

The administrator also called upon teachers to double their efforts in class work to help improve the district schools’ performance in national examinations.
